- Glass furnace Saint Gobain - France (Lagnieux, Oiry, Chalons, Cognac)
Saint Gobain Packaging had a problem since they used to install a “black box“ or a DCS (distributed control system) for the glass furnace regulation which was difficult to modify, maintain etc.
- The furnace regulation includes the batch parts, the furnace parts and the feeder parts. The data for the furnace regulation are collected by a sensors called FMS (bottom, middle, surface).
- The FMS sensors provide the temperature and the viscosity in the bottom, in the middle and in the surface of the layer glass.
- The problem was clearly understood by Schneider team; so they developed an equivalent system with a PLC as well as an user friendly software interface.
- The first benefit for Saint Gobain is the transparency of the system and the free hand for the maintenance and modifications since previously only the supplier had access to the system. The second benefit is the possibility to change the setting in order to be able to adjust the regulation process and to have a glimpse of energy savings.
