Solution: Consulting solution to optimize pumping in a treatment plant

Value proposition

Main drivers:

  • Boosting stations are very often using valves to adjust the pressure. When one valve is closed, 30% of the power is dissipated by the valve is around 50% of the power delivered by the motor.

Value proposition:

  • Thanks to the drives, energy consumption is reduced here around 50% on boosting pumps. Energy savings are easily estimated via ECO8 software.
  • In this case the total cost saving (2 pumps) is 48K€ per year. The investment is around 40k€ so the ROI is less than 1 year.

Differentiation factors:

  • Based on an Altivar 61 drive and its water solution card VW3 A3 503, this optimal solution allows for managing pumping or booster stations based on 4 pumps through one unique device, and without any programming.

Solution architecture

Main characteristics

  • 2 Variable Speed Drives (VSD) (ATV-61HC13N4) to install on 132kW motors (2 motors). One runs in master mode and the other runs in slave mode. Make flow management by VSD. See the structure as below.

  • 2 pressure meters installed to measure pressure on each pump.1 flow meter installed in the pipe. The 2 VSD (1 master, 1 slave) control the flow according to the process demand (this flow reference can be programmable). Pressure and flow can be adjust on site, or the pressure and flow signals can be transmited to control center, and be adjusted remotely.
